Governor Abbott talks about new jobs and economic growth at the PE

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Governor Gregg Abbott held a press roundtable today at WestStar Bank in downtown El Paso.

Governor Abbott spoke about the booming economy, growing businesses and new job opportunities. According to Abbott, a new Schneider electrical plant will create 400 new jobs in El Paso and says it will become the largest manufacturing plant in Schneider’s portfolio.

“A new distribution center and warehouse for Marshall clothing stores will ultimately create more than 1,100 additional jobs.”

According to Abbott, Texas is sitting on a budget surplus of $27 billion. The goal is lasting property tax relief for Texas.

“But we have to remember who the money really belongs to, that money is taxpayers’ money, so what I’m suggesting is that we return at least half of that money to taxpayers with the biggest reduction in ‘Property Tax History of Texas.’

Abbott has been governor of Texas since 2014 and is up for re-election in November against Democratic opponent Beto O’Rourke. KTSM will continue to cover both candidates as the election nears.
