TEXARKANA, Texas (KSLA) — Currently in custody, a minor was wanted for his alleged role in an apartment complex shooting that killed two people and injured another.
Texarkana, Texas police say 16-year-old Kevonte Collins was apprehended in the Dallas area, specifically DeSoto, on the afternoon of Monday, May 2. Officials were informed that he was there. According to police, due to the violent nature of Collins’ alleged crimes and the threats he had made on social media not to be arrested, officers used a tactical approach to take him into custody.
According to police, once they arrived at the house, Collins walked away without incident. Texarkana officials say two firearms were seized from the home.
“I am grateful and relieved that this dangerous young man has been taken into custody and I hope this development will bring some sense of peace to the families of the victims. I am extremely proud of the exceptional work of our detectives on this case. , especially Detective Cory Motley. They’ve been following leads on this case non-stop for the past five months and that effort paid off yesterday. I also want to thank the DeSoto Police Department, the Security Department Public of Texas and the Southwest Regional Response Group SRT Team for their invaluable assistance yesterday,” Texarkana Texas Police Chief Kevin Schutte said.
There was a warrant out for Collins for capital murder. He is being held at the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center and is expected to be transported to Texarkana in the coming days. Police say a second man was arrested with Collins on unrelated charges.
Collins is a suspect in the shooting death of Deangelo Hardy and Rikolah Young, 18, residents of Texarkana, Texas, around 5 p.m. Dec. 13 at The Oaks at Rosehill Apartments in the 1900 block of West 13th Street.
A 17-year-old boy was seriously injured by multiple bullets.
